II . PSYCHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF LOVE
7. The perception and emotion
has to start this analysis as is the "elementary particle" of the psychic life of man, namely perception, and emotion that it is derived. Called "feel" the reaction of the senses to the excitations produced by objects. The senses are linked the most closely with the constitution of the human body, but do not identify with him. So you can not, for example, reduce the sense of sight to the mechanism of the anatomy of man: the outer-receptor-optic nerves, the brain centers involved. In the sense of sight, there is something more, a specific mental quality has none of the other organs taken separately or together. This quality belongs to the domain of psychological knowledge. With the sense of sight, as with any other sense, we gain knowledge of objects defined, or, rather, gain knowledge of objects in a definite way. It's here material objects, because they are the only ones that can be known by the senses. It is often said that the proper object of the senses consists of sensory qualities.
perceptions are the most closely related to knowledge. The senses react to the appropriate objects discernible by the inner feelings of perception. Catch and hold the mirror image of an object or reflected. The feeling is a direct contact with the object of sense since, for the duration of contact, does the direct experience in the proper sense of this term. But so is over, the sense to keep the image of the object whose representation gradually replaced in consciousness to the perception that he produced. This brings us to the notion of internal senses. The external senses are the ones that come in direct contact with the object while it is at your fingertips. The internal senses maintain that contact when the object is not available to the external senses.
The perception has always, therefore, a concrete and detailed picture that shows all characters of an object, this object, obviously to the extent that the perception is accurate. Because it can not be : in this case, we embrace with only a few characters, those who allow the right to qualify the object d and a in general, but many individual characters escape us. We know, however, that a material object can be subjected to more penetrating observation: in which case the individual characters previously unknown and we will be set also in the sensitive knowledge.
The man gets a lot of perceptions. The working nonstop sensory receptors, which runs fatigue and nervous system, which is in need of rest and regeneration well as other parts of the human body. Because of the large number of perceptions, not all of which permeate the human consciousness with the same intensity. Some are durable and stronger, other Febles and transient. The perception often is associated a certain emotion. When we say a thing or person has done for us "a big impression," we express to perceive it that we have experienced both a sensible emotion, through which they shall be imposed on our consciousness. With this we the field of emotions.
Emotion is a different phenomenon to perception. Emotion is also a sensory reaction caused by an object, but its content is different from perception. The content of this is the image of the object, while the emotion experienced one of the values \u200b\u200bof the object. Do not forget that the various objects we encounter in our immediate sensory experience , imposed on us not only for their properties, but also by their values. Emotion is sensory, and most is that even has its counterpart in the body, but the values \u200b\u200bthat can cause, however, not be material. is known that emotions are often caused by non-material values, spiritual. True to provoke emotion is necessary that such values \u200b\u200bare "embodied in one way or another. It is essential that they perceive it to be heard, that they represent or are remembered: that's when the emotion is born, a deep emotion. The emotion is shallow where it is to material values. When, however, the object is made up of supra-material values, spiritual, the deepest reaches of psyche of man. is understandable: the birth of this emotion-mediated participation or immediately after the human spirit and its power is much larger. The intensity of emotion is yet another thing. An emotion may be shallow but intense, as can be profound as to its content, but much weaker intensity. The ability to experience deep and profound emotions at once seems to be a particularly important element of the inner life.
When perception is attached to the emotion, the object penetrates the consciousness of man and it is written with such clarity. Indeed, in this case appears to us only the image but also the value of the object, the cognitive awareness thereby acquires an emotional coloring. Thus was born a more intense experience, thanks to which the same object gains importance in the eyes of the subject. All these events also occur when dealing with a touchdown of people of different sexes. We know, for example, how important is this field so-called "first impression." know how rich in meaning is this simple sentence: "She has made a big impression on him" or "He has caused her a great impression." But if human love begins with an impression, or rather by a perception impressively, if everything in it in one way or another must necessarily rely in it (including its spiritual content), that's just due to fact that along with the print is also to experience the excitement that the other person as value, or rather, that allows two people, men and women, experienced each other as values. Therefore our psychological analysis of love will be forced later, constantly referring to values.
